Good Breaking News: What Backs Up "Tuff" Talk

The other morning while spending a rare moment with my wife, we observed the aftermath of the previous days' "Breaking News" of another gunman invading a school. We were just discussing how "Breaking News" usually meant bad news. We then, as we all seem to do these days, were glued to the set, observing the images of the scene at the school. The good news was this time the results would be different. A true to life heroine emerged -- Ms. Antoinette Tuff  with some everything-but-tough-talk. She somehow talked this young man down from his escalated murderous and suicidal state, so much so that the gunman gave himself up to authorities. First impressions were: 'how did this woman do such a courageous thing' and 'how did she remain so seemingly calm during such an ordeal' and  'could such steely confidence be taught to others'. Then  we observed the not-so-secret to Ms. Tuff's success -- outside the school there was a circle of people holding hands praying intensely. Say what you will, and I am sure people were praying at Sandy Hook Elementary and during other horrendously tragic events, but this time, by the grace of GOD, the results were much different and it must be highlighted properly -- prayer changes things! Now that's "Good Breaking News"! And , yes, for the better! Oh that humankind would pray and not faint!

The only Jesus they See

Loveis an action word.  And it is through our actions that we demonstrate the love of God.  It is by this love that we show Jesus to others.  We often verbalize our love in various degrees ranging  from the love of ice cream to the love we have for people.  However, when it comes to showing that we are Christ's disciples, it's not about what we say, but what we display.

In the10th chapter of Luke, Jesus gives a parable of a traveler  who is beaten, robbed and left for dead along the side of the rode.
